White Ironstone
For objects so seemingly simple, white ironstone plates, platters,
pitchers and tureens have enjoyed an unusually long reign at the
head of America's dinner tables. From their golden age in the mid-1800s,
to their resurgence in the 1970s, to their continued popularity
in the 21st century. These are, after all, sturdy utilitarian wares
made in a single neutral color; their myriad forms are what set
them apart.
"The range of available patterns produced from the 1840s
to the 1870s is remarkable," confirms Iowa antiques dealer
Fay Ziemer, co-owner with her husband, John, of Rare Find Antiques.
"That range enchanted homemakers then and attracts collectors
today."
